Saffron extracts and tinctures have been used for centuries in traditional medicine for the treatment of different syndromes and diseases. Some of these uses have been antispasmodic, eupeptic, sedative, carminative, diaphoretic, expectorant, stomachic, stimulant, aphrodisiac, emmenagogue and abortifacient.
Saffron has traditionally been used for its sedative, emmenagogue, stimulant (appetite), aphrodisiac, diaphoretic, and antidepressant properties, and for a wide variety of conditions, including cramps, asthma, menstrual disorders, liver disease, and pain.
Saffron, as an antioxidant, is positively effective on sperm morphology and motility in infertile men, while it does not increase sperm count.
